Mankatt's Shack Attack!

From Pete AKA Mankatt
"I poked around an old shack yesterday and found the recycle bin - not terribly old 1989-1991 sort of stuff -but it was neat finding a time capsule - unfortuntaly - save for a couple Jello boxes - it wasnt particularly fun/kids food - but still - fun to find - Ill have to go back with a flashlight - one little room had tons of 1970s/80s magazines strewn about - Good Housekeeping...Readers Digest (which I never even knew had cool ads in until someone posted some on flickr - I like those ads because they are pocket sized....I have too many folders of old ads as it is...heh) - anyways - heres the pic I took:

I found a few other odds and ends I may post - a couple dog food bags - imagine had this been 10 years older -I saw a few falling down buildings stacked to the windows with old junk inside - so - Ill be back up in that area again real soon."

Pin-Back Freak-Out!

I picked up a nice selection of vintage pin-back buttons this Thursday morning at the flea market. I rarely find so many buttons that I like at once! The guy selling them commented that he was surprised that he had made more money selling them that day than anything else. I can only imagine the pins that had sold earlier. He was selling them at 3 for a dollar, so he probably sold a bunch before I got to them. I looked through well over 400 of them, and these are the ones I bought.

"I'm with stupid"  a classic, in two sizes

"Yeech" I'm always attracted to pins that express total dissatisfaction!

"Computers for people"  Yes, I am a Atari 2600 nerd

"Eato Bandito" A strange button for a pizza parlour (!?) I don't really get the Bandito/Italian food connection. I love the artwork, and that it may be somehow, someway connection  to Frito Bandito.

"Here it is" This is my favorite one of the bunch. I really has everything. I have no idea as to what the message be communicated here is and that is why I love it so much!

"I'll bleed" A great WTF button

"Sesame street kid"

"This is my Zap button" From the awesome 60's underground comix ZAP!"

"Blow a mind today"

"I (Heart) Chuck E. Cheese's"

"Ask me almost anything" A funny take on the "Ask me about" advertising slogan. A great button for a know-it-all like me!

"Mod is up" I think this is like "Mod is in"

"Omega symbol" Reminds me of the Process Church!

I (heart) McDonald's

"Shut down or melt down" I got this one for the weird graphics, and later realized that it's a "no nukes" button. I love 70's "no nukes thing.

"Let's raise hell together" Devils Jean Company?

"See no evil" have no fun.

"I love Mike" Tiny Mike Nesmith of The Monkees pin.

"Servomation"

"Iran Sucks" These were all over when I was a kid, as bumper stickers, and t-shirts as well.

"Love those lungs" I love these lung people!

"I'm a good kid"

"Able to love" I'm seeing pink elephants!

"Girls wanted"

"Genghis Kahn was a sissy" Classic 60's Mad Magazine style "history humor"

"Smile" Another favorite!

"The Devil made me do it" Shades of Lucky Strike

"Legalize Brown Rice"

"Career Streaker" There's nothing like someone running full speed and nude to freak out the squares!

Hamburger

I bought this at a Kay-Be Toy store on closeout in the mid 80's 2 for $5.00 (the price tag is still on it) I have the other one out of the package and on display in my livingroom. I find the toy as pleasing as the real thing.

Mummified Pizza!

Talking about vintage food package collecting? How about VINTAGE FOOD!?! This is a slice of Domino's Pizza from 1990. It has been shrink wrapped dozens of times. A friend of mine gave this to me. I wonder if he knows that I still have it. The color has changed to a velvety dark green/black, and has shrunken in size by over 50 percent. I hope it never breaks open! It's actually very solid and has dozens of plastic layers protecting it.

SLIMMONS!

Here's a funny snack box! My wife picked this up a a gag in the 90's. It always brings a smile to my face. I wonder how many of these were saved!

Junk Yard Dog!

I visited the local auto graveyard this passed weekend, hoping to find some interesting things left in the back seats and trunks of wrecked and abandoned vehicles. No luck this time! Here are a few pix from my days adventure.

Mac & Cheese Crackers

This food package is not very vintage. In fact, I just bought it out of a vending machine! I couldn't resist the idea of Mac & Cheese in a cracker form. I love when snack foods crossover into other snack worlds! They taste similar to goldfish crackers, but with a definite ting of Kraft Cheeze powder.
